A classic and well known children's book. Although it is aimed at children this book's overall message can be appreciated by young teens and older. The Velveteen Rabbit tells the tale of a stuffed toy rabbit's dream and hope of becoming real. William explores the idea of what it means to be real through the character Skin Horse, "Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."
The story is told from the perspective of a third person narrator. Felix uses soft warm coloured illustrations throughout the book which helps readers feel the warmth of the story.
The Velveteen Rabbit has been adapted to a film, in 2009 and a popular 1985 video-recording read by Meryl Streep.
